US Government Censors Nutrition Research at Taxpayer Expense

(OMNS May 30, 2014) Yes, we're still here. Regular readers of the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service have perhaps wondered why no OMNS reports have been issued for the last two months. One reason is our focus on the completion of the new 900-page textbook, The Orthomolecular Treatment of Chronic Disease: 65 Experts on Therapeutic and Preventive Nutrition. The other reason is that we wish to announce that the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine is now indexed by PubMed.

Well, at least some of it is.

Actually, two papers are indexed.

And by PubMed only; not MEDLINE.

Admittedly, they are two mighty important studies, especially if someone in your family is battling cancer and wants to know more about using intravenous vitamin C therapy:

But why index only two papers? After all, the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine has been publishing research like this for 47 years. There are many hundreds of clinical nutrition papers that remain excluded by the world's largest medical library, the US National Library of Medicine. The taxpayer-funded US National Library of Medicine.

If you feel that this is odd at least, and censorship at worst, please feel free to email a comment to NLM at custserv@nlm.nih.gov . A contractor librarian is quite likely to send you a throwaway form letter answer.

You can also write to LSTRCinfo@mail.nlm.nih.gov , where I have been informed by a senior representative of NLM that "your response will come from an employee of NLM." I expect that there, too, you will be informed that

1. journals are rated for indexing by a special committee, and that
2. any journal not indexed can always reapply.

I further predict, based on experience and documentation provided by OMNS readers, that you will be reassured that greater minds than yours have decided issues like this and you do not need to be concerned.

Baloney. Withholding information from public search is wrong. Censorship at a public library is very wrong. And, you do not have to accept it.
