Lighthouse at Charlotte, near Lake Ontario Ink and colored pencil by Warren E. Saul (1980) Close to the Genesee River in Rochester, New York, the Charlotte Lighthouse is hundreds of yards away from Lake Ontario. The reason, I am told, is that the shoreline has receeded since it was built in 1822. The lighthouse is within walking distance of my old neighborhood and high school,
